STHIRATĀ: A stable mind creates a stable life
Last month we cultivated power. Through Agnijāta, inner fire was awakened and energy became available for action and movement. February is where that power is stabilised. Sthiratā is the foundation that allows power to be held and used wisely and safely. A stable mind creates emotional stability, clarity, and presence, and becomes the ground from which everything else grows.
Having a mind that is stable and simultaneously luminous is the key to a solid practice, both on and off the mat. Stability is the pioneer of self-knowledge, which leads to self-love. When the mind is steady, we can handle anything. It doesn’t matter what experiences life is throwing at us, our inner world remains steady. No matter how difficult or testing life becomes, we learn to weave each situation into our lives without being overcome by it. A stable mind helps you become a stable person. For your family, friends and yourself.
This month we are devoted to building a steady mind and a stable life.
Once the moon has been made steady, the sun can be made to rise
This teaching from the old Hatha Yoga scriptures points to a foundational truth of practice: the mind must be stabilised before power is cultivated. The Moon represents the mind: calm, steady, receptive. The Sun represents prana: vitality, nourishment, and the energy that drives action and transformation. When the Moon is steady, the Sun can rise safely, clearly, and with direction.
This is why stability is important. A steady mind creates the conditions for power to be held and directed. Without this foundation, energy amplifies whatever is already present within us. Yoga does not discriminate, it magnifies. When awareness is grounded and the nervous system is stable, prana becomes a force for clarity, devotion, and service. Power then moves in harmony rather than overwhelming the system.
This principle shapes the way we practice this month. Sthiratā is the cultivation of inner steadiness so that energy can be used wisely. We start with the Moon, the mind, the breath, our inner world, and from that steadiness, the Sun rises in a helpful way. This is how strength becomes embodied, and power becomes something we can live with integrity and fearlessness.
Supporting Practice
This month I haven’t added any physical practices for the support, as I want you to really focus on your mind, thoughts and your inner stability.
Take a deeper look into your mind, notice your patterns, and see where more steadiness can be cultivated.
The Fire of Transformation Practice
Your core practice for this month is all about the awakening of inner fire born through the union of Ha and Ṭha.
This advanced practice brings lunar steadiness and solar vitality together at the navel to ignite the sacred Haṭha fire. Through deliberate breath, bandha, and focused awareness, inner heat is cultivated to awaken Rudrani, directing energy with strength, clarity, and purpose.
Practice everyday throughout the month. Use the sadhana checklist as your guide.
Your Monthly Oracle Message
The Anahata Chakra, the heart center, is where compassion, empathy, and love reside. It is the space in which we connect deeply with ourselves and others, transcending separateness and cultivating a profound sense of unity. When balanced, the heart chakra radiates unconditional love and acceptance, healing wounds from the past and creating deep emotional connections. Unhealed wounds or blocked energy in this space can manifest as emotional pain, a sense of isolation, or difficulty in trusting others. It is here that we find the strength to heal ourselves and offer healing to others.
Reflective Practice:
Where in my life can I open my heart more deeply to others? How can I practice compassion toward myself and those around me?
Practical Exercise:
To activate and balance the Anahata Chakra, begin by sitting comfortably with your spine straight. Place your hands on your heart and take a few deep breaths, focusing on the rise and fall of your chest. Begin chanting the sound “YAM” the bija mantra for Anahata. Feel the vibration of the sound filling your chest and opening your heart. With each breath, visualize green light, the color associated with this chakra, expanding outward. Allow this energy to cleanse and heal any emotional blockages or negativity, cultivating love, compassion, and connection in every part of your being.
